Leonard Bernstein's nature, personality and spirit, as well as his genius and contribution – as a composer, conductor, teacher and global figure are captured in full and in compelling, illuminating and eloquent prose. Revelations not only about the man but also about the music make this a treasure of a book.
What a great book! It was a well-written, balanced study that introduced the context of Bernstein's life and also introduced the reader to his music. I highly recommend it.

It is an excellent book. Almost new! And sent quickly!
Well-written although as a composer writing about another composer/conductor, et al, there were sections that were" far too 'inside baseball' about programs Bernstein chose mount both at the NY PHIL and Tanglewood venues. Shawn keeps a respectful distance, that somehow works given how bombastic Bernstein's life turned from time to time. I recommend it.
