On par with other tour books -- I'm never 100% happy with the various guidebooks I buy in advance of trips to new areas, including several other titles/authors I've tried; they're all basically ok. This one was fine (in that tradition of the other ok travel books I've had) -- but in hindsight I would have preferred a book (probably a smaller one, then) 100% devoted just to Florence (which was my primary destination) -- I didn't have any luck the day I was searching for such a title. Although, having sections in this book about the rest of Tuscany did whet my appetite to travel to those places... but I couldn't, on this particular trip.In the end, I didn't glean any profoundly important or vital tourist info from this book -- that I couldn't get online (or from hotel clerks, once on the ground in Florence). But it was useful at least, before the trip, from the perspective of mapping out a rough outline of my itinerary, even though I figured I'd need to re-check things like admission prices, etc., online (for newer info) as those things change so fast, printed books (even new editions) quickly become outdated.
We travel often and depend on Fodor's. I use many resources but keep returning to Fodor's for hotel and itinerary suggestions. Neither my husband nor I have ever been disappointed in one of their starred recommendations. Very dependable.
Excellent Resource to use before you go. I made a PDF file of the information I was interested in transferred it to a PDF App on my iPhone and IPAD and left the book at home. I wouldn't recommend it to take with you as it heavy to lug in the digital age. Good maps and information.

love it - just as it was advertised and arrived timely
The book is very comperhensive, patricularly as it pertains to Florence, our choice city. It gives an analysis of each district, and the highlights therein. It also identifies a "first blush" tour of the city. We have register with Monograms, and they offet that first introductory tour of the city.
Fodor guides were excellent
Fodor is my go-to travel resource. Spent 10 days in Florence and the info in this book was invaluable!!!
